Build a Simple Compressed Air Cannon Powerful Enough to ...
As you read in the heading this is simple compressed air cannon which you can build with PVC pipes from your local hardware store for a couple of bucks.Warning: This is common drainage PVC pipes used in this project which is not pressure rated and charging the system above 45-50 psi can cause an explosion. The use of this video content below is at your own risk.This is a video on my YouTube channel - THE YOUNG TECH SCIENTISTAll the materials you need for this project can be found in a hardware store.-- 4 inch PVC Pipe-- 4 inch PVC End Cap-- Tire Schrader Valve-- 3/4 inch PVC / CPVC Pipe-- 3/4 inch PVC / CPVC Elbow-- 3/4 Inch PVC / CPVC Ball Valve-- If you are using all PVC pipes, only PVC cement is required. But using both PVC and CPVC pipe means both PVC and CPVC cement is required-- 5 minute setting epoxy ( to speed things up a little bit, but normal setting epoxy can be used as well )You can find detailed information on building this cannon in the video available above.STEP 1 - Lets start off by cutting the 4 inch PVC pipe to about 20 inches and clean it off with some sand paper.Step 2 - The tire schrader valve can be fixed on to any one of the 4 inch PVC end caps by drilling a hole and Pulling the valve through the hole.STEP 3 - Drill a large enough hole to fit the 3/4 inch PVC / CPVC pipe to fit through and add a little bit of epoxy to hold it in place.STEP 4 - Get the 3/4 inch elbow and glue it to the PVC / CPVC Pipe with some PVC / CPVC cement.STEP 5 - Cut the 3/4 inch pipe to 1.5 inches and make two of these. Take the first piece and glue it to the elbow and glue the 3/4 ball valve to the piece if pipe which is protruding from the 3/4 inch elbow.STEP 6 - Take the other piece of 3/4 inch pipe and glue it to the other side of the ball valve. Also be very cautious to not drop any cement into the ball valve.Step 7 - Glue another 3/4 inch elbow to the piece of 3/4 inch pipe protruding from the ball valve.step 8 - Cut a long piece of 3/4 inch pipe about 25 - 30 inches long. Now glue it to the 3/4 inch elbow.Step 9 - Check for right alignment from joint to joint and make adjustments before the cement sets.Step 10 - Now both the 4 inch end caps can be cemented to the 4 inch PVC pipe and make sure you use ample amounts of PVC cement as this is the chamber which will be pressurized.Step 11 - You might have noticed that the 3/4 inch PVC pipe is unsupported at the other end, so a piece of 3/4 inch piece of pipe can be cut to the right length to the gap between the 3/4 inch pipe ( which is the barrel of the cannon ) and the 4 inch PVC pipe (which is the Pressure chamber of the cannon). To make sure its a perfect bond, we need to increase the surface area by placing some sand paper on the 4 inch PVC pipe and rubbing the supporter 3/4 in pipe against it until the supporter pipe has the curve of the 4 inch PVC pipe, the same process should be done to the 3/4 inch barrel pipe as well. Now the supporter 3/4 inch PVC pipe can be glued in place with some epoxy or some superglue. ( there is much more detail about this step in the video placed above )STEP 12 - Let the cement set for about 24 hours and hook up a bike pump to the tire schrader valve and keep in mind to not charge the cannon above 50 PSI, and shoot on anything except living organisms or property.This cannon is no joke and can shoot ammo to incredible distances with incredible speeds!You are probably thinking to yourself "Hmmm well, that's all right but what kinds of ammo can I shoot?" You should already be able to stroke straight and true...now you just need to develop the "feel" of the stroke. Simply wishing wo not make it so...you really need to set aside some time to practice this if you expect to draw reliably. When you get it to work, do not think "Oh, I've got it" and stop...keep at it and reinforce the mental and physical factors necessary for successful draw. I see you have the newer body style Intrepid which had a 2.7l or 3.2l engine. There was a ton of problems with th 2.7l which is why it was discontinued. The way the 2.7l was designed it did not breathe properly in the crank case causing constant sludge situations. Diy Solar Pool Heater
Last year my Wife and I bought an above ground pool for exercise and recreation. We discovered that my Home shadows the pool in the afternoon, and that drives the water temperature down several degrees in the Spring and Fall. Since we usually don't get into the pool on Weekdays until after work, this made for some pretty chilly swims, even when the air temperature was in the 80's. I decided that a Solar heater that I could mount outside the shadow of the house would be just the thing to bring the water temperature up to more bearable levels. I took a 4x4 piece of plywood and painted it black. Then I took 200' of 1/2" vinyl irrigation hose and coiled it tightly on the plywood, using UV-resistant zip-ties to secure the hose every foot or so by drilling holes and looping the zip-tie around the hose and through the plywood. As you can see 200' doesn't completely cover the plywood, but since I was following the square edges instead of using a circular coil I ran into a problem where the hose started to kink in the corners. If you look closely at the picture you can see I still have a few kinks to literally work out. All done, and in the Sun, I took a temperature reading of the surface of the board at about 3:00 PM. The surface read about 134 degrees F. Now we've got to get that lovely heat into the pool.I put together a series of valves and "Y" adapters to route the water into the heater and then back to the pool, using the natural flow and pressure of the existing pool filter pump, instead of a separate pump. The 1/2" ball valves allow me to shut off the water to and from the solar heater and remove it once the afternoon temperatures make it unnecessary.The top is a smooth 1 1/2" "Y" adapter with a 1 1/2 to 1/2" threaded adapter in one side with a 1/2" male to male threaded nipple to a 1/2" ball valve and a 1/2" threaded to ribbed adapter that the vinyl hose slides on. I used two hose clamps on each hose fitting to avoid leaks. Sand all smooth surfaces prior to gluing to assure a good seal. IMPORTANT: Do NOT glue any threaded parts. The glue will set long before you get the threads tight. Use Plumbers Grease or Pipe Dope to seal the threads. Even Teflon tape may leak due to the high pressure. The middle valve is a smooth 1 1/2" ball valve glued to a short piece of 1 1/2" PVC on both sides. By partially closing this valve the pressure will divert some water out of the top "Y" adapter to the solar heater panel. The bottom of the assembly is pretty much a mirror image of the top. A ribbed to 1/2' threaded adapter to a 1/2' threaded ball valve, to a threaded 1/2" to 1/2" nipple, to a 1 1/2" smooth adapter, to a smooth 1 1/2" "Y". The flow of the water down the 1 1/2" PVC pipe through the 1 1/2" ball valve will draw the water from the solar heater into the water that flows into the pool. If the water were allowed to constantly flow through the solar heater, the hundreds of gallons of cold water in the pool would overwhelm the 10 or so gallons of water in the solar heater. It simply wouldn't have enough time to heat up before it got sent to the pool. To solve this I installed an outdoor timer to my pool pump. The pump still runs several hours a day to filter the pool, but from Noon until about 6:00 PM the timer turns the pump on and off at 1/2 hour intervals. This gives the water in the solar heater time to heat up before it goes into the pool. As you can see, the water flowing into the pool when the heater is operating is about 99 degrees F. This keeps the entire pool at about 84-86 degrees in the shade. Everything was purchased at Home Depot and cost about $50. Now my Wife and I can get into the pool with an "Ahhhhh" instead of an "OOOOOOoooo".

How Often Should a Gas Hot Water Heater Be Drained?
Sorry, after reading your answers i have to respond. YES, do drain your water every two months. You have a hose bib on the side of the tank just for this purpose. With the water on, hook up a water hose to the hose bib and run the water for 60 seconds. If you have calcium deposit flowing out keep running the water until the water flows clear. The hose bib has a small opening for the water to flow through. The calcium may stop up the hose bib. The best way to drain the water heater is to remove the hose bib and replace it with a 3/4 in. ball valve. Install a 2in.x 3/4 brass nipple, a 3/4 in. ball valve and then a brass 3/4 mip x hose connector. This will give you a full 3/4 inch path way to remove calcium deposits from the heater. If you have ever made rock candy , that is what is happening in the bottom of your tank The heavy mineral lays in the bottom of the tank a turns into calcium deposits. Turn the water off first. How to Atomize Water with Pressure
There are many practical applications for atomizing water with pressure. These include hydraulic and air atomizing systems. Hydraulic spray systems apply pressurized water to nozzles for many different applications and include evaporative cooling and the spray of pesticides or liquid fertilizers on crops. Air atomizing systems, in contrast, mix air with water to create fine droplets or fogs for humidification and cooling purposes. Each type of spray system has specific nozzles and pressure requirements in order for the atomization to occur properly. Knowing the amount of water delivery that is needed is the first step in designing a water atomizing system.Determine the amount of water delivery that is needed. For humidification systems, the amount of water delivery is based on the volume of the area of the room or building that is heated by an HVAC system. Calculate the square footage and the ceiling height of all rooms in the building. Tables can be found on the Internet that have this information. For example, a 1,000 cubic foot room requires from 0.5 to 10 gallons per day of water for humidification. There is a large range because the amount needed depends on the tightness of the building's construction.Select the type of nozzle that fits the needs for water consumption. Manufacturers have nozzles listed either by gallons per day or gallons per hour. Make the conversion to gallons per day if needed. Find the required air pressure and purchase an air compressor that provides both the adequate pressure and volume needed for atomization. Installing a Ball Valve on a Coleman Cooler
In this instructable, I will show how I installed a ball valve on a Coleman cooler.A cooler with a valve installed is the first step in building various equipment for homebrewing beer. Once the valve is on, this cooler can be made into a mash tun or a wort chiller. This instructable is meant to be the first step in my following instructables on how to build these.This will allow you to drain liquids from the cooler at a controlled rate and will be simple enough to disassemble and clean.Rule # 1 on making equipment to make some tasty homebrew is to have a tasty homebrew!Please note: Have all of your materials on hand ahead of time. You don't need to be driving to the hardware store after following the golden rule.For this, I used a second-hand Coleman cooler. The plug was broken and it wouldn't hold water anymore, but it's perfect for this since I'll be removing that part anyway.Most homebrewers brew beer in 5 gallon batches. Make sure the cooler is big enough. If not using a new cooler, try and pick one that is clean, smooth on the inside and free of cracks. Since the cooler in this instructable already has a plug hole drilled into it, I will not be covering how to drill a new one since it isn't necessary.I began by removing the 4 screws that held on the lid of the cooler. With the lid temporarily removed, it won't get in the way.The plug assembly on the cooler consists of a stem, a rubber washer and a nut on the outside. They need to be removed and cleaned. Simply unscrew the outside nut, push out the stem and pull out the washer.I modified the outside nut a little bit by cutting off the plastic part that holds the plug. I also widened the inside hole with a knife, cutting carefully to only shave off some of the threads.Here are the parts I used to make the new ball valve assembly:- (1) 3/8" brass ball valve- (1) 3/8" brass hose barb adapter- (1) 3/8" brass coupling- (1) 3/8" x 1-1/2" brass pipe nipple- (1) 16mm flat washer (it fits over the pipe nipple)- (1) huge washer (this is not the technical term)- 3/8" clear tubing (I had this already)- the modified outside nut on the coolerThe tools I used to install it were just a pair of wrenches. These parts cost me about $18USD.Start by putting the rubber washer that came on the cooler back in. Put the outside nut back on the cooler. Discard the stem as it will not be used.Next, screw the pipe nipple onto the ball valve. Take the huge washer and place it over the outside nut. Slide the pipe nipple into the cooler through the washer, outside nut and rubber washer. The other end of the pipe nipple should be visible on the inside of the cooler. Slide the 16mm washer over the pipe nipple and make sure the threads of the pipe nipple are visible.Tighten the pipe coupling onto the threads of the pipe nipple and snug with a wrench. This should make the cooler water-tight again.Now put the hose barb on the other side of the ball valve and that's it.Installing this ball valve is the first step in making my mash tun and wort chiller.By itself, it doesn't do much, but it will allow me to fit my coolers with a ball valve ahead of time and simplifies the whole process. Now, I have the 3/8" female end inside of each cooler and I can use it to build off of while I design the components of my two tanks.
